Teriyaki Turkey Burgers

I’m sure it will come as a huge surprise to anyone who knows me or follows this blog that I’m obsessed with food blogs. I get a lot of inspiration from other foodie folks and generally jut like looking at pictures of pretty food. Well Plated is one of those blogs I just completely dig. Beautiful, creative, and totally make-able good food. Like, super good. Like, never fails good. Check her out! She recently posted these teriyaki burgers that I saved and just kept thinking about. I made some changes because the original recipe, while totally good for me, wouldn’t land with all the eaters at my table (namely the 5 year old). So inspired by this recipe from this awesome *other* blog you should check out and follow, here you go.

WHAT YOU NEED
* 1lb lean ground turkey
* 1/2C Panko bread crumbs
* 1T minced garlic
* 1/2T ginger paste
* 1/2t black pepper
* handful fresh cilantro, chopped
* 1/4C tropical teriyaki marinade (I use Soy Vay; if you can’t find this or another similar option, add some soy sauce and note that you may need to add more Panko to get the right consistency)
* canned pineapple rings
* 1 red onion, cut into thick slices
* olive oil
* hamburger buns, for serving

WHAT TO DO
In a bowl, mix together the ground turkey, Panko, garlic, ginger paste, black pepper, cilantro, and marinade until well combined.

Heat a little olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Form the meat into four equal-sized patties and cook for 5-6 minutes, then flip and cook another 4-5 minutes.

While the burgers are cooking, heat another pan over medium heat. Add the red onion slices and drizzle lightly with olive oil. Cook until the pieces begin to brown and soften, flip, and brown the other side. Careful not to let the onions burn. Remove the onions from the pan.

Add the pineapple slices to the same pan in which you cooked the onions and cook a few minutes per side to brown and carmelize. Remove from pan. 

Serve the burgers on a bun topped with pineapple and red onion and enjoy!
